Autumn Review
Good Morning Everyone,
I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. It is still horrible hot here, but I recently heard about some terrible storms around the country. I hope everyone is safe. This morning I decided to try something different. It has been years since I have walked. I normally work out on my elliptical but I have been craving some walking recently. I have a lot of neighbors that walk around the neighborhood so this morning I decided to get up and walk two miles. It went great and I hope to keep it up for the next several months.

I recently watched Jennifer L. Scott’s video about Fall Wardrobe Planning and thought, “well great minds think alike” because I was already planning on going through my wardrobe here shortly. Even as a glance at my closet, I already see several pieces that I will be donating to charity. I have so many items that I have not worn in over two years. It’s time…
The boutique’s new cardigan arrival.
I am very much looking forward to the autumn this year. I love those crisp mornings. Goodness, I always feel so good going to the office on those days or running errands. I am excited about my grass turning green again and being able to take my dogs on evening walks. It has been way too hot the last few weeks.
As I glanced at my closet this year I realized that I am prepared for autumn. I have everything I need. I have TONS of dresses. I purchased so many dresses this year and last. I found so many that I loved and that would be great transitional pieces. The area that I am struggling with is skirts. I can not seem to find decent skirts.

I have searched high and low for skirts and can not seem to find any that I like. I checked Ann Taylor, J Crew, etc. I even checked Amazon and still had no luck. But I will continue to search. I like for my skirts to look a certain way and trying to find what I want feels like a needle in a haystack. Very hard…..
The other item that has been on my list is black heels. So I ordered a pair from Ann Taylor Loft and they are way too tight. I wanted to return them but they were clearance so I couldn’t at that point. I am still on the hunt. I don’t own a pair of black heels but I did find a pair of studded black kitten heels from Poshmark. Those just may have to do.
I will be working on my closet the weekend of Labor Day. We get that Monday off so having that extra day will give me time to go through everything. I will also be putting out my autumn decor that day. I will show you guys the process then. Let me know in the comments section below if you are preparing for autumn as well. Have a great Monday!
Also please send me an email if you would like to be added to the blog’s weekly emails. Every week, I send out an email with recent blog posts, new arrivals, boutique news, discount codes, recent internet finds, and favorite Youtube videos. Please email me at ahomeforelegance@gmail.com with your info. If you have a friend that you think would love my emails forward them to her!
Hi Mrs. Shockley,
I also went through my clothing and put together a couple bags for donation. It felt great once I finally got around to dropping them off! I am trying to refine my clothing choices and don’t want to see items around that I no longer like. Have you read the Chic Closet by Fiona Ferris? I recommend it! That’s great you feel that you have all the dresses you need for the upcoming season. Let us know if you find any skirts! That’s an item I struggle to find as well. I enjoy seeing all your new purchases though!
Kelsie
Hi Kelsie,
It does feel so good to drop off clothes at the charity. I always love thinning out my clothes. It’s a wonderful feeling and it looks great! I have not read Fiona’s new book! I do have her old one called “Thirty Chic Days”. I may need to re-read that and take a look at this one! I will definitely share any new finds. I hope I can find some skirts. Have a great weekend!
Hi Mrs. Shockley,
Your Fall/Winter dresses/skirt outfits are my favorite. I wear dresses only too,but I did have a few holes in my wardrobe for Fall dresses. Some i just wore to death. I do follow the 10 item wardrobe, with more like 12 dresses. My new purchases have been a Boden navy blue jersey everywhere dress and a Loft emerald green and black jacquard dress. The Loft dress was from Poshmark. I will be purchasing new opaque tights for the Winter, but that’s it! Looking forward to your skirt journey. Skirts are so wonderful since you get to match a beautiful top with it. Ohh…I love Fall decor. Please do share your decor. It’s all so beautifully done. I have purchased several glass pumpkins from HomeGoods and Ballard Designs this year. I was inspired by your new indoor pumpkins last year.
Hi Mya,
Thank you so much! You wear nothing but dresses? How wonderful! I have about 12 dresses that I rotate but I have several other pieces as well. I don’t follow the 10 item wardrobe but my wardrobe has thinned out quite a bit. I am looking forward to fall. Especially the temp change. Goodness Mya, it is smoking outside! I am looking forward to pulling out all my pumpkin decor next week! I will share it all soon.
Clean out and purge. I donated 6 large black trash bags to the charity shop full of clothing, shoes and accessories. I tell ya, I don’t know how I collect so much stuff lol I’m set for my fall wardrobe too. It’s been so easy since I moved to dresses only and I’m still working from home. Plus we stay pretty warm until late November then it cools. October doesn’t know what it wants to do. I love the autumn season. It’s so wonderful. I wish they’d get rid of daylight savings that messes me up bug time for a good 8 to 10 days, I’m off???
Oh you moved to dresses only as well? Wow, this is catching on. I have heard this a few times. There are quite a few women moving just to dresses only. I have been wearing only dresses for over a decade and still love it. Lucky duck, you are still working from home? That is great. I think this will probably stay around for a while. I love having the flexibility.
I love daylight savings time in the fall. I love getting that hour back! I can’t wait. That is going to help tremendously with my morning walks!
