Dream Kitchen- Art Deco

Good Morning,

Spring break is on the way. I am trying to come up with a plan. I’ll check with Lauren to see what she wants to do but I want to have another staycation! I really enjoyed my last one. There are a few things around the house that I would like to get done and mark off my list. I would like to wash some of my blue and white in my kitchen and clean my chandeliers. Speaking of home decor and kitchens, in our last Chic Society Zoom call I talked about home decor and how I was not on the all-white kitchen look. I should have been more clear on that. I do love white kitchens but I just want a little more decor in them. A fellow blogger shared the kitchen below and once I saw it I thought, “now that’s a white kitchen that I would love”! This kitchen comes from a home in Atlanta. This home is located in the Buckhead area and was built in 1937.

I don’t know much about the kitchen or have any details but I do know what I see and what I like. The chandelier above the island is exquisite!

I love the antique details. The rug is a wonderful addition to this room as well as the sitting areas against the bay windows.

And the floors, my goodness. The color is perfect to me. I hope they are original. I love the brown sofa table and beautiful armchair. There appears to be art on the walls as well. I think that’s a wonderful idea. Art in your kitchen. I may have to try that. I do have vintage-inspired rugs in my kitchen as well. If you wish to know more about this home you may view it here.

Let me know in the comments section below how you feel about white kitchens. I would love to know your opinion!

    Good morning Mrs. Shockley,

I am inspired by your stay cation. I have been telling my family this would be a great idea. Seems like it may be more relaxing than the running and ripping with a traditional vacation. My husband and I are taking our girls(11 and 5) to Orlando this summer. I know I will need a vacation after that. I can’t wait to hear about your stay cation and what you do with Lauren.

As for white kitchens, I do have one. My husband and I had our kitchen renovated last year. We have white cabinets and white and grey quartz counters. I do want french blue cabinets but my husband was apprehensive. So, we went with white. I am in love with it. I looked to Aerin Lauder’s kitchen for inspiration. We added some color in our dinnerware, cloth napkins, and I always have fresh flowers on the island and in my window sill. Also, I have a beautiful silver cache vase from the Bunny Williams line. All these combinations add pops of color. A beautiful peice of art sounds like a great idea!

Thank you! I loved my staycation last year. It was my first one and won’t be my last. So exciting to hear that you renovated your kitchen. I am jealous. We have really dark cabinets and I would like to brighten them up a bit. My husband refuses to paint them. I would love some french blue cabinets! I love Jennifer’s kitchen! Her color cabinets are great! You’ll have to send me some photos of your before and after. I would love to see it.

Pinterest and HGTV basically turned me off the white kitchen with marble. It’s beautiful but I’m over it. They really can “kill” a design by oversaturation. That became the standard and it’s almost like my eyes can’t see the details and differences now. A blank canvas is what that kitchen idea looks like to me. I did see a kitchen where the family opted for an amazing cobalt blue kitchen island. That broke up the white and I adored it.

It’s sad to see such a lack of individuality. Farm house, shiplap was all the rage and now as one YouTube vlogger said of her own home, “I’m so sick if it now”. I knew 5 years ago as I watched her spend close to $75,000 gutting a perfectly fine kitchen and doing Home Goods, TJ Maxx hauls with tons of Rae Dunn, farm house, that its wasn’t her style. It never matched her personality which is hot bod fit mom/Starbucks/Chipotle/Target with a Range Rover in the driveway. I guess it provides YouTube content, what a waste. She is most definitely modern Americana. I’m more Traditional Colonial styled home. My thought is if you enjoy other styles, which most of us do you can add pieces or accents of that. You need not revamp your entire home or a room in that style because it’s popular.

Staycations is the way to go when you need too. I hope you all have a nice Spring Break season for the upcoming year. ??

Ms. Tracey I loved everything about your comment here. Yes Pinterest and HGTV (especially) really “beat” a design or idea to death! It drives me nuts too! I think people with white kitchens will begin to add more designs and details to their kitchens in order to make sure that it is different.
When you mentioned the “hot bod” mom comment I completely lost it! That is hysterical! But you are so right. I do hope that people and go back to finding their own voices soon.
