My Garden Inspiraton

Good Morning Everyone,

Boy did we have some spectacular weather here in Indy this weekend! It was sooo nice. I opened up all of the windows to let in the nice breeze. I love having fresh air circulate in our home. It seems to get that stale winter air out. All of the sunshine we had this weekend got me thinking about what I want to do with my garden this year. I have shared my peonies before and I love them. I can’t wait to see this year’s colors and varieties. Each year we get more peonies and more hydrangeas.

In my recent Youtube video, I talked about how I wanted some climbers in my garden. I am still wanting that. So I have started my research on what kind of roses would be best to grow here in my state. I can’t wait until after Mother’s Day, that’s when I start to work in my yard. Honestly, May is the best time. We still get snow in Indiana up until April! It’s terrible.

I am also on the hunt for a garden trellis. I found a few on Wayfair that I am interested in. But I really want a white one.

This is the end goal. I am hoping to grow some pink roses of course. I would love to have a scented light pink version. We will see what the garden center says. I am so anxious about it. It always seems to be hard to grow things here but I am determined to have some climbing roses on the side of my house.

Isn’t this spectacular? I would love to come home from a long day in the office, grab a chilled glass of wine, sit on my porch and literally smell the roses. Let me know in the comments below if you have a trellis. I would love to know what you growing. Also, has anyone everyone grown dahlias? Let me know! Have a great Monday!

    Good morning Mrs. Shockley,

Fresh air in the home is the best. I did the same this weekend. Oh my, climbing roses are soooo beautiful. I don’t have climbers, but I do have 4 rose plants in my flower garden. We have a green garden fence around our vegetable garden and I did try to train climbers to grow along the fencing but they hardly got blooms. I thought that would be beautiful around the vegetables. Just didn’t work out. I really hope you are able to get the trellis and have some climbers. I grew Dahlias for the first time last year. They are the dinner plate ones. Boy were they huge and they bloomed so often. My girls and I were clipping them every other day or so. Sometimes we couldn’t keep up and some would die off. They’re lovely for bringing in the home or giving to people. Depending on which variety you purchase, they grow in various heights. Ours grew about 5 feet. And we grew them in the back of our garden so that we could tie them to the fencing, otherwise they topple over. The nice thing is you can replant the tubers year after year. And they multiply.

    Happy Gardening,

    Mya

Oh I am so jealous! I tried to grow dahlias a few years ago and they never grew. I have no idea what happened. You have a vegetable garden? How is that going? Do you have issues with pests or animals?

My vegetable garden does really well. We started it 4 years ago when we moved into this home. Pests? Oh yeah. We have to use pest control every year. We don’t really have issues with animals because we have that green garden fencing from Lowe’s or Home Depot around the garden. I’ll send you some pictures in the Spring. For the Dahlias, perhaps try again. It could have been something simple as the eyes were turned the wrong way or not deep enough. I hope you share what you do with your garden this year. Gardening is trial and error. For the chic assignment, I listed Gardening as one of my joys.

Okay, thank you for the tips! I think you are right about the dahlias. I may have planted them wrong.

We were unseasonably warm this weekend in the 80s on GA. I must admit it felt good. I took walks and even did a significant portion of my spring cleaning. The weather made me feel so invigorated. While I had the energy, I did it. Yes the glorious breeze of fresh air flowing through the home. It needs to be aired out.
The trellis with rose are really a nice addition to any home. I hope you are able to find just what you are looking for. Do you live in am HOA community/neighborhood? Double check with them before you get started. You may need “approval”. I hate for you to get your trellises and have them barking at you about it. 💕😊🥀⚘🌹💐🌺🌻🌸

I was working on getting some “spring chores” done as well. I think we will be okay having the trellises but I will check on that. Thank you for the idea!

Mrs. Shockley, I am also pursuing some climbing flowers and wanting to add a trellis too in my side courtyard. Your garden struggles sound all too similar. I also dream of a day when I can breathe in the lingering sweet fragrance of pink roses but I better hurry before it gets too hot here in Arizona. It’s perfect weather now!

      Hi Rosenda!
So nice to hear from you! I hope you are able to get your climbing roses as well. Please share a video once you get your trellis!
