Being Elegant in Public…

Ready to celebrate the new year? Me…. I am not sure yet. With each new year I know that there should be excitement but for me I am always apprehensive. I never know what to expect for the upcoming year.

I do need to figure out my word for the year and I do know that organizing is at the top of my list this year along with getting my greenhouse installed! I have been on the hunt for small organizational tools and will be sure to share what I order and end up using from Amazon.

I really want to get my schedule under control. I hope that some recent changes at work will help with that. I also want to get the carpet replaced upstairs this year. Some many home to-dos.

Continuing with my elegant appearance as best as I can is always number one and the photo below is one of the number reasons why I dress my best every day.

Yes, this is a photo of me. So about two years back my family and I were at an ice-skating event, and they had some news anchors there. What I did not know was they were filming the event for their recent news story.

I was caught in some of the footage, and they have been using it ever since. So, every year now for the last two years people text me and my husband saying that “I was on the news”!  But no one has been able to send me a snapshot until this year.

When I got this photo I thought, “okay I look put together” because honestly you just never know how you might be caught on camera. I then looked at my husband and said, “You see this is exactly why you should always try to look your best”. You never know who or what is around you. I have said this so many times on my blog. Always look your best. If you need any ideas for a new year resolution, let this be one. Have a great weekend and Happy New Year!

Yes! This is so important and such a great reminder. I think it’s why I enjoy vintage content so much. Everyone dressed their best and took pride in their appearance. I wish that was still the norm! Things have gotten so casual. I’m “overdressed” everywhere now, but it’s the only way I know how to be!

Oh goodness, I feel the same way. I love vintage movies and books. Sometimes I look at that and think my goodness that was the norm for them!

This is wonderful! Thank you for sharing. I have overcome the feeling of being overdressed or worrying what other people will think of me being too dressy. I know I’m always presentable and much like you I’m most comfortable being elegant.Im working on this with my 13 year old. She really likes leggings and sweatshirts. Its very difficult to teach the importance of elegant dressing when everywhere you look people just don’t care. Im not giving up however.
Speaking of word of the year, I had a sleepless night a few weeks ago and the Lord spoke to me that Trust needs to be my word of the year. Trust for so many things this year. I hope you’ll share your word of the year.

Yes, please continue to be comfortable in your elegant attire! I think that it inspires people more than what we think. I know the struggle about trying to teach your young daughter. I have been at war with my 18 year since she was about 14. I actually asked her one day how she would feel if I left the house in a messy bun, jeans, t-shirt or leggings. She had a fit! Which honestly was surprising to me. So, I started to grab some of those things and her eyes got big. I said, why can you dress like this and I can’t?” She said, mom it just isn’t you”. It wouldn’t feel right. They are absorbing more than what we think.

Unfortunately, I see things like sweatshirts being worn to the office now. How nice it would be to see elegant work wear again. It’s sad, not sure those days are coming back! But at least we’ll keep it up. Happy New Year!

Very very good reminder. You never know who is watching you. ? that’s cool you were on the news? I also need to work on my facial expressions. I do not have a poker face at all. I’ve been told that I look mean, cold, angry, distance and these traits are the farthest from my personality. My face reads reads differently. I’m working on looking softer, approachable and more appealing??

Oh my goodness! I had no idea that a camera crew was around. Some of my friends asked what was I talking about when they saw my face on the screen. I truly do not remember. You are right about facial expressions. I have been told that I don’t look approachable sometimes. Honestly, it’s because I see some people and I just know that they have a nasty spirit, and I don’t want them near me.

I totally understand that Mrs Shockley. When you feel that spirit and it doesn’t mesh with yours, you retreat. That’s when it’s a protection.
