Home Office Chandelier

Good Morning All,

Here we are week three for some of us working from home. I have been trying to take a break from the news. I just can’t watch it every day. It can be nerve-wracking.

Time for a little quarantine project sharing! I have made a list of small projects for my husband to do around the house. Of course, he keeps dodging it but you’re here buddy so…

The first was my new glass front door. I posted it on my Instagram. So now I can have my front door open during sunny days. That helps with this quarantine for sure. The second was a new light fixture for my office/ loft.

This is called the Trellis Light Chandelier (here is the crystal version of it). I tried to find it online but I could not. I could not buy it in the store either. It is a “special order” light fixture. I don’t know why but it is.
Here is what it looked like before the light. I have about two lamps in this room and here recently those just have not been enough. We need more light.

When we had the house built in 2013 we made sure that we had the contractors put electrical sockets in the ceilings. I just had a “feeling” that down the road I would change my mind and want ceiling lights.

I love the way it looks and it provides the extra light source that I need. I hope that you enjoyed this post and I am hoping to have more “quarantine projects” in the next few days. I really want my husband to paint the television stand in our room. It is solid wood and it was given to me by my mother in law. It is about 40 years old and I would like to have it painted gray with brass hardware. Now wouldn’t that be pretty?

My Dream Desk ~ The Chinoiserie Secretary

Good Friday Morning,

Already February is upon us! Wow! 2020 is on a role. My husband asked me recently if I wanted to get any new pieces of furniture. Now why my husband would ask me that is crazy. He knows how much I love to look at furniture.

My eyebrows raised when he asked me. I said, “Well I would like a chinoiserie desk”. Of course, he has no idea what that is. So I tried to explain it but he still did not get it.

So that had me thinking. What kind of desk would I like to have if I could purchase one?  There is no great inspiring website than Pinterest.

So below are the chinoiserie desks that I would love to have…

This is still one of my favorites. Remember I shared this office in June of 2019.

I think I am loving the secretary look. It seems so sophisticated and whimsical. This desk is from the Ralph Lauren collection. I should have known.

I would love to have a little pink in it. Especially some cherry blossoms. Now wouldn’t that be wonderful?

Oh my gosh, you guys. I found a blue and white secretary desk! ADORE! Pinterest is so dangerous!

There are so many beautiful options. But I do hope that sometime in the near future I can find one. I did see a chinoiserie desk at my local antique store but the price was about $795! Not something I was willing to pay at the time. Even right now I don’t think I would like to pay that.

I do hope that you enjoyed this post and that it provided some inspiration for you. Have a wonderful weekend and enjoy your time with family.

Fresh Candles

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone,

I am back in the office and trying to get into the swing of things. This weekend we went out for dinner and while we were waiting for a table we decided to go next door to the bookstore.

I picked up a Good Housekeeping magazine and came across the beautiful Highgrove Tea Set for One pictured above. Isn’t it gorgeous? Oh I wanted it so bad so when I see things in a magazine and I know I don’t want to buy it, I take a photo of the article with my phone and look it up later.

So when I looked up this set I realized that after shipping it would be $100! That’s disappointing but maybe next time.

I did go candle shopping. Bath and Body Works was having a sale on their 3-wick candles. Their candles are the best. I did pick up the new fresh orange scent.

My husband loves and could not put it down. He keeps smelling it. It burns very nicely and has notes of grated orange zest and citrus.

The second candle that I picked up is my all-time favorite perfect spring. This has notes of fresh grass and apple blossom. It may be a little strong for some people but I love it.

I forgot to get my other favorite fresh cut lilacs so I am hoping to pick that up soon. Please let me know what your favorite spring candles are. I would love to know!

Enjoy your day!

Happy Friday,

Let the countdown begin to the Christmas festivities! I for one am looking forward to next week. This week has been a busy one so far and I am looking forward to spending time with family and not going to the office!

I know it’s Christmas time but can I share this beautiful apartment decorated by Danielle D. Rollins? I would really love to have this stunning petite fringe sofa. I believe it is from Society Social. Perfect isn’t it?

I am loving the pink and green color scheme. Even the pops of blue and white are lovely. I have been on the lookout for new bedding for ummm years now! I can’t seem to find something that I love. So seeing inspiration like this helps me to broaden my horizons a little more.

Can we talk about the closet? I love the space and the windows!!! Oh gosh, I would LOVE to have windows in my closet. The opportunity to add more texture and color to your closet…. would love it!

If you want to see more from this apartment, you may read it here. I hope you all have a great weekend and I may post once next week and take the rest of the time off. We will see.

Enjoy!

Christmas in my Office

Good Wednesday Morning Everyone,

My day designer is becoming more and more filled with tasks that I have to accomplish. As Christmas day is fast approaching, I began to check my Christmas lists to make sure that all is finished or close to it.

I decorate any and everywhere I can. I always add a little Christmas cheer to my office. I have my Pandora radio playing my Frank Sinatra Christmas station very quietly. But most of my co-workers around me don’t mind hearing a little Nat King Cole.

Today I wanted to share the little holiday decor items that I have around my office.

So we will start with my office door. We have nameplates and I always tape a faux poinsettia above my nameplate. I love it and enjoy walking up to it every morning.

This is my magnet board under my nameplate. We use these to announce when we are out of the office, meetings, etc. I have a little photo of a poinsettia on mine.
When you walk into my office you will see this. I have blue and white planters and ginger jars on the floor. I filled one with some faux poinsettias. Very festive!
I have this faux arrangement on one of my window sills in my office. I always exchange or change out the arrangements according to the season. This year I put faux pine, eucalyptus, and oranges in this arrangement.
My Christmas cactus has started to bloom. This always adds a little more life to my office.

This is another one of my faux arrangements. I added more faux pine, acorns, red flowers and greenery. It is very beautiful. Especially in the blue and white vase.

Now my local grocery store had real pine this past weekend. I could not pass it up. I am really enjoying it on my desk this week.
My supervisor gave us all these charming glass poinsettia trays a couple of years ago. I love using mine every year. I also brought in a Tis the Season candle this year. I don’t light it (office policy) but I can still smell it in my office. It’s delightful!

And I cannot forget about my scarves. I love placing my scarves on my chair. Especially this beautiful faux fur stole in emerald. It’s stunning and soft!

I hope that you all have found some inspiration in this post. If you can’t decorate your workspace then make the best of what you can do and what you have. You have a job and sometimes that is the best way to keep things in perspective! Have a great day!

The Breakers

It’s Wednesday already and today I will be volunteering at Dress for Success. I’ve got some clothes that I need to drop off. I am having one of my “massive purge” feelings. I love these but also hate them because it’s usually a year later I began looking for whatever I got rid of and then I totally regret it.

It takes a few weeks for me to move on and then I feel good about my closet being “lighter”. Well, the word is getting out in my office. How I adore elegance and beautiful things. Oh boy, I have some co-workers giving me the stare down but no matter I will keep moving forward.

One co-worker, in particular, shared how she went on a historical home tour in Rhode Island. It piqued my interest so she came to my office to tell me about it. Oh me, oh my. I now want to take a tour of the Breakers!

I have never heard of these homes before and was very grateful that my co-worker shared her experience with me. I quickly hoped on the website and learned about all of the homes on this fabulous tour.

The Breakers were these massive homes that were considered to be “summer cottages” in the 1800s. Can you believe that these homes were considered to be summer cottages? Nuts!!!

The Preservation Society of Newport County has 10 homes listed on the website as apart of the tour. My friend said that you could buy a ticket to tour all of the homes and even see the gardens. Sounds like an elegant dream to me.

It should be no surprise that most of these homes have a connection to the Vanderbilts. I toured the Biltmore Estates in 2016 (see here if you missed it)

I think taking a tour of the Green Animals Topiary Garden would be fun. I know our daughter would love to see this.

I am thrilled to learn about more places that my family and I could possibly tour. Well, maybe just me. I have already thought about how I could add these to our time when we visit New York again.

If you have visited the Breakers please let me know in the comments section below. I would love to hear about your experience and your time there.

A Charleston Home Tour

Good Morning All and Happy Friday,

I’ve got a busy weekend planned. I am putting up my Christmas trees! Yes, I know it is early but I must get a head start because I put up about six and I want to enjoy them for more than a month. So I will be starting that this weekend.

We also have Monday off for Veterans Day (thank you to everyone for your service) so I will be using that day to run some errands. There is a new consignment store that I wanted to visit so we will see how that goes. I’ve got to return some purchases at the mall and Von Maur’s beauty week starts so I may take a peek at what they are offering.

Today’s post is a beautiful home tour from one of my favorite bloggers. I follow Gal Meets Glam (Julia Engel)’s blog and website religiously. I have been such a fan of her style and home decor for about six years now.

I saw this home tour on the Southern Living Magazine website recently and just became enamored with all of the inspiration from the home. Even if you don’t like everything about it there is still so much decor inspiration to pick from it.

Gorgeous curb appeal!!! I love the splash of blue on the home. See….serious home decor inspiration!

They have a beautiful wrap around porch. She and her husband always do a great job of decorating their outdoor space.

The breakfast nook area is bright and inviting and the butler’s pantry area is something that most of us will kill for!
Now the kitchen is spacious, full of color, and simply stunning. But… there is a but for me. I am not a fan of the light fixtures. I am a vintage chandelier kinda girl but as I stated above, you don’t have to like everything about someone else’s space. You can just use it as inspiration.

These chairs are my favorite thing. They have the chinoiserie look and they are just classic!

Now, this photo is from a couple of years ago. I remember seeing this peony on her wall and thinking, “I must have it”. I asked her and she said that it was made by an artist in San Francisco named Tiffanie Turner. Here is her website if you are interested.

Doesn’t this look like a wonderful retreat? I only dream of having bed linens like this. I am working on it but they are quite expensive. I’ll get there.

I don’t want to show all of the pictures so if you wish to see the rest of the tour click on the link above to view and take it all in.

Home tours are so wonderful. It’s amazing how someone else can decorate their home in a way that you would have never thought of. Enjoy your weekend!
