My Silk Scarf Collection

I wanted to do a fun post of all of my favorite silk scarves. I love scarves and think there is such an elegance to them. They add class to any outfit….

Love this scarf found it at H & M. It is really great and so is the price!

The next three scarves are from Ralph Lauren. They are called the Equestrian scarves and the only place to find them is on Ebay or the Ralph Lauren outlet mall.

In green

This is Ralph Lauren too.

Here is what it looks like when open. (Sorry it is backwards)

I hope this post inspires you to take another look at scarves or inspires you to pull out your satin or silk scarves. As autumn approaches nothing could make you look more dressed up or polished than a silk scarf.
Enjoy the hunt!!!
Also here is a fabulous video from You-tuber Audrey Coyne. I love her channel and her style!

The Overflow of Decor

I know that most of us love home decor. I know I do! I started my home decor shopping when I was in college. I went to a two-year community college here in my city and worked a full-time job. I was a legal assistant and had gotten hired on my 20th birthday! I will never forget it. Best gift ever because I knew at that moment that I could get my own place!!!

So over the years I have accumulated many decor items and have kept some of them. Once we got our first home I started buying organizing tubs to keep everything in. And now the collection just keeps growing….

Some of my curtains. I purchased these over 10 years ago.
More linens
I have chair covers, table linens, tassels, pillow cases and the list just goes on and on.
Pictures….

Picture frames
This I found recently. It is a Giorgio Armani velvet hat box that I paid only $10 for!
Wonderful!

Beautiful blue and white vase that I took to my office
And these lovely pink blush pillows.

I also have lamps and vintage rugs in my decor closet. It is hard to keep organized but I enjoy it. I love home decor and will continue to collect. I have been know to give away some of my items in my decor closet. I just believe that your home should be beautiful. Whatever that beauty is to you. Enjoy your home and collect!!!!

A Paris All Your Own ~ New Book

I love reading and I am always excited about books that discuss European living. I dream of going overseas some day and I am pretty confident that the Lord will allow that dream to come to pass.

I was really excited about this book because it is complied of many different authors and each story gives their own personal experience of Paris living.

I was very surprised and pleased with their honesty. Some authors loved Paris and some didn’t. Some were hoping to have the same experience as their grandmothers and some were expecting that Paris that they saw on television.

But when it came down to it, everyone was honest and that I really enjoyed. Although there were some stories I enjoyed more than others.

The first story that I loved was the very first one in the book. It is called “Thirteen Ways of Looking at a French Woman” by  J. Courtney Sullivan. In the first chapter she talks about her mother and grandmother. She said, “It begins, like all things, with my mother……she believes that, in her heart, she is French. She collects Quimper pottery, wears silk scarves with confidence of a native Parisian, and spritzes Chanel N*5 on the dog after a bath.
She goes on to say, “Her passion is inherited from her own mother, my grandmother, who to me seems every bit as glamorous as Catherine Deneuve. She subscribed to W, and when she’s collected enough back issues, she bags them up and brings them over to our house. My grandmother is known for being the first person to jog in her neighborhood, long before there was such a thing as jogging attire- she did it in a trench coat.”
WOW!!! Talking about being elegant everyday! I was hooked on this story right away.
The second story that I enjoyed and learned a lot from was “Paris is Your Mistress”. The author Ellen Sussman talked about how she was so in love with Paris that she didn’t see how it was blinding her to the fact that her marriage was failing. She mentioned how she got up each day with boundless energy once they moved there and how she wanted to roam the streets. She also said that she hardly knew or remember what her husband did or was doing. It was so interesting yet so honest. I loved her honesty.
The third story that I enjoyed was “A Myth, A Museum, and a Man” by Susan Vreeland. This story was so full of substance and beauty. She said this, “Painting, sculpture, architecture, music, religious and social history- I was swept away with all of it, wanting to read more, to learn languages, to fill my mind with rich, glorious, long-established culture wrought by human desire, daring, and faith. And I wanted a cordial relationship with French people, one peppered with laughter and lively conversations about art and history over cafe creme in a sidewalk cafe.
“Impossible, Madame,” I heard at the back of my mind. “The French are snobs, especially Parisians. A cordial relationship? It will never happen”.

Oh my goodness, do I feel the same way! But as I continue to read the story it turned out very well with lots of discussions about art and the people. Wonderful read.
The last story that I read was called, “The Passion of Routine” by Jennifer L. Scott. I LOVED this story. I am such a creature of habit so this spoke to my heart. Jennifer shared about how she was living with a Parisian family during her studies in college. She lived with them for about a year and was talking about their living habits. She talked about how their apartment was when she first got there, “I found myself in a grand old apartment with high ceilings, walls painted a bold yellow, faded antique furniture, and aristocratic portraits adorning the hallway. It was all so much more formal than the carefree Parisian flat I had pictured in my imagination.
She also talked about her first night there for dinner, “Monsieur Chic, the son and I waited in the living room until dinner was announced. Madame Chic then rolled out the food on a dinner cart from the kitchen. We sat at the dining room table, which was beautifully set with cloth napkins, blue and willow-patterned china, and delicately etched drinking glasses.

And this family lived like this everyday. So inspiring….
I still have ten more short stories to read in this book so once I finished those I will come back with a part 2 to discuss those stories. I just wanted to share what I have read so far and how I have enjoyed them.
Thanks for reading!!!!!

A Fancy Horse Barn

I love home tours just as much as the next but I have never seen a horse barn this fancy. My goodness….

This barn belongs with a home on 40-acre property and was white and green aluminum. The property was purchased by a former professional baseball player and his wife. I am glad that the gave the designer Annie Brahler-Smith free reign because it turned out great!

I love Atlanta designer Suzanne Kasler’s work but when I read her book and found out that she is an Indianapolis native that made me love her all the more. Here is a beautiful home that she decorated in my new love blue and white. I hope you enjoy looking at these photos just as much as I did….

Now, this room stopped me in my tracks. I love the slipcovers for the chairs at the island. They are Nancy Corzine linen with cording and buttons in a Ralph Lauren linen.

I adore the armchairs in the Elizabeth Benefield linen. Just stunning….

Now this took some courage. But the color looks great. It called “shrinking violet” by PPG Porter Paints.

Blue and White Around My Home

I have talked about blue and white so much on the blog. It is becoming my favorite thing. I need to slow down on buying it because honestly I do have enough but the more I resist the more I find pieces so the battle continues.

I wanted to do a quick update on my collection so far. I have purchased a lot more this year and just wanted to share what I have found so far.

We will start with this piece. I purchased this earlier this year from the Library of Congress in Washington, D.C. It is so neat to say, “Yes, I got this piece from the Library of Congress. I bought two and sent the other to my lovely friend Mrs. Shery. She is my inspiration to this blue and white collection.
This next piece is from the Homegoods store here in my city. I purchased two of these but different patterns. The other is at work. The piece under the table I found at Ross for $8!

These pieces were found this year too. It’s wonderful when you have friends and family finding blue and white for you. These were found by my cousin’s girlfriend Sarah at a flea market.

More in my cabinet. The big one was found at Von Maur last year and the smaller was found at a T.J. Maxx in New Jersey in 2014.

This was found in South Carolina this year.

Flea markets all around the city
Blue and white lamps, the best flea market find ever!

And my last two greatest purchases so far. The one on the table is from Bath and Body Works (shocking, I know) and the bigger one is from Homegoods. I only paid $60 for it! Such a steal!
I hope to find some blue and white garden stools in the near future. All I want is 2. So as the warm season ends I am hopeful that next summer will bring about more possibilities for me finding them as the blue and white trend is picking up.
Thanks for reading!!!
