The Chic Assignments – Jennifer L. Scott

Okay, I have been so excited about this new monthly challenge by my favorite author Jennifer L. Scott called Chic Assignments. Not only am I working on civility but also trying to keep chic elegant activities going on in my life. I love that one of her readers came up with this idea! It’s wonderful! With all of the silly challenges that I see on social media, this one is worthwhile.

I believe that most of you are Daily Connoisseur fans so these challenges should not surprise you.

Alright so her first challenge was to listen to classical music. Well, I can check that off on my list because every morning in the office I have my Mozart station on my Pandora already going with my hot cup of tea.

My favorite piece is “Spring”: l. Allegro by Takako Nishizaki

You may listen to it here.
Secondly, I don’t use the ten-item wardrobe but I have been getting rid of items and selling them on my Poshmark account.
I am actually selling this dress right now on my Poshmark account.
For the third chic assignment, I have been incorporating natural products into my life and home. I have been using the Mrs. Meyer’s All Purpose Cleaner. You can view my blog post here about that.
And her last chic assignment was to read a book. I have been reading the Civility Solution, the Woman’s Herbal Apothecary, and the Inviting Life: An Inspirational Guide to Homemaking. Like Jennifer, I read about three books at a time.

I have really enjoyed these assignments this month. I can’t wait to see what Jennifer has planned for March. Please let me know in the comments section below if you have joined in or intend too! I would love to hear what chic activities you are all inspired to do. Thanks for reading!

Disagree Graciously

I bet this title alone intrigued you. It intrigued me too as it is the chapter that I am now reading in The Civility Solution. I mentioned this book back in December and I am still reading it.

Now that the holidays have passed and work has gone back to normal I can get back on schedule with reading. One of the first sentences in this chapter was, “Rudeness is the ugly face that disagreement shows when it’s mismanaged.”

I read this sentence twice…

I read it twice because it is true. Haven’t we all done this? I know I have. When I don’t understand the person that I am communicating with sometimes I can be rude. Honestly, it doesn’t happen often with people outside my circle as with people inside my circle.

But I am on a journey to improve my thoughts and emotions when discussing issues with individuals. Dr. Forni says, “when you disagree, focus on the other person’s position to gain a full understanding of it and make sure that your disagreements are warranted.”

He also asked questions like, ” how many times have you argued for the mere sake of arguing? How many times have you turned the discussion into an opportunity to make the other person look bad?”

He then goes on to say, “Success is progress measured against the betterment of a situation, not the defeat of a person.” I needed to read that because sometimes that is the goal of an argument. To defeat the other person instead of making the situation better.

He encourages you to start asking yourself radical questions. “Why do you have an urge to prove yourself all the time?” We need to take a good look at our accomplishments. Silence your inner critic and avoid comparing yourself to others.

“The next time you are engaged in a confrontation, be aware of the dynamics at work. Stop and think. “Is my insecurity pushing me to prevail at all costs?” Which is more important, that I prevail or that the issue is resolved in the best practical manner?”  Am I even listening to the other person? Is he or she offering good solutions?”

If the other person is unwilling to follow you on this path then you can respond with: “Let’s give this some more thought before we talk again.” Your hope is that this pause will inject a dose of rationality into the situation.

And lastly, if you are in a marital disagreement Dr. Forni suggests not to communicate that dismissive, “I don’t understand to “Help me to understand.” That does sound better and it suggests that you are open to their ideas and help.

Well, I hope that you enjoyed this small chapter from Dr. Forni’s book and may have found some information on helping you on your path to disagreeing graciously. Happy Monday!

Monique Lhuiller Rose Cosmetic Bag

It’s Friday and I am ready for a long weekend. I hope all of you had a wonderful Valentine’s Day! I shared on my Instagram account my double rose bouquet that I received from my husband. I was so surprised to receive it! You could smell them down the hall. It was amazing!

I also got another surprise too. My Monique Lhuillier floral cosmetic bag arrived yesterday!

I actually ordered it the first week of February but was told that there was a long back order list and that they were not sure if it would be sent. I called earlier this week and was finally told that my bag would be in the first shipment and that I should receive my order.
It finally arrived yesterday and I could not be more excited! It is lovely!
It is a very large cosmetic bag and had these tags on the inside. You can just rip them out once you receive it.
Love the Monique Lhuillier tag on the inside. It is very chic!
A small pocket is located on the inside too.

Also love the gold hardware. It looks so classic!
I put my items in asap! I can’t wait to use it this spring and summer. It looks so feminine and chic. Also, here is a photo of my gorgeous Valentine’s Day roses. I just love this picture. I hope that you all enjoy your weekend and thanks for reading!

Winter Blush Pump

If I had a flag it would probably be blush because I can’t seem to stay away from this color. I love it so much and whenever I see it I just have to buy it. The next lovely blush item that I found were these great classic pumps from the Gap.

This is the classic suede pump in dusty rose pink. It also comes in true black. Better hurry quick and order a pair. They are going fast!
I love the pointed toe and the 3-inch heel. They truly are classic!
I hope that you can grab a pair soon. The dusty rose color is selling pretty fast and at $31.99 I would not be surprised if they sold out this week! It is truly a beautiful staple item to have in your wardrobe.
As always I hope that you enjoyed this post and Happy Hump Day!

The Tiffany Blue Tea Set

It’s always great when your husband finds a beautiful gift for you. This past weekend my husband found this wonderful new teapot for me at Davids Tea.

This is called the jolly teapot and it is absolutely beautiful! It is a gorgeous tiffany blue color.
It has beautiful gold hardware and a gorgeous gold infuser.
Now you can buy the teacup and teapot separately but why in the world would you do that!
It is a beautiful set and I loved using it this weekend. I will be taking it to work to enjoy for this week. I hope that you enjoyed this find. If you order it or go and take a peek at it let me know your thoughts. It is a very beautiful set to look at. Enjoy!!!!

The Winged Tote

I am so thrilled to share with everyone today this great tote that I found at Target. It is called the winged tote handbag and I actually found it walking around my local store. I saw it in the navy and I thought, “I wonder if they have this in a different color.” So I checked online and they had three other colors.

The color that I ordered is called blush of course and it is so pretty in person! I was a little apprehensive about the snake print handles but they look great!
The size is great and there is PLENTY of room!
Gold “feet” on the bottom, wonderful feature.
It looks like it’s double the size of my other blush tote. Both look so chic together by the way.
This is a wonderful tote if you are looking for something that is large, classic and elegant. This could be a wonderful work bag for anyone and make sure that you check out those other colors too! Enjoy!

An Affordable Day Designer

Last year in June, I shared my new day designer here in the blog and I have been using it religiously every day since.

I love my planner and it does keep me in order. I write everything in it and check it daily. It comes with me to the office just in case something comes up and I need to write it down. Love my planner! But since the year is beginning to wind down on it I went to the website to see about ordering a new one. Then I remember how expensive it was. The original price is $59 and that does not include shipping. It can be pretty pricey.

So I began my internet search trying to figure out if there was another one out there that was comparable but there wasn’t.  I love my day designer and wanted that one. But as fate would have it guess where I found the day designer much cheaper?

Target…. that’s right Target is carrying the day designer! Now it is not as big as the original two that I have but it has everything you need to plan your life. So this past weekend I took a trip to see if my local location had it and they did!

This is the 7×9 planner in floral blush. It has the gold cover ends on it too. A favorite and chic feature that I love.

And here it is in the floral navy matte. I purchased this one because I already have it on the first print. Can you believe it is only $14.99? My heart just sang when I saw it.
Very pretty on the inside.
They also have it in the notebook style if you prefer that.
Then I looked up and a smaller 5×8 version was available as well. It’s small enough to fit inside a purse.
And last but certainly not least they had a wall version or desk top version available. The price for this was only $9.99. Outstanding right?
I can’t tell you how thrilled I am to find my favorite planner at Target. The price is just too wonderful to pass up. There are more designs on the website if you are interested. These would also be great birthday presents as well or maybe gifts for future college students. If you have a local Target go and take a peek at them. They are very beautiful!
Enjoy!
