A Christmas Tea at Irwin Mansion

Good Morning Friends,

It’s the week before Christmas, can you believe it? These last few months have just flown by! I went to the L.S. Ayres Team Room yesterday with my team. It was a wonderful lunch. I don’t think we are going to see the Nutcracker this year. I honestly want to take a break. The last few years have been a lot. The venue has been so crowded and dealing with people has just been a lot for me. They did change venues this year so maybe…..

This past weekend I did something fun with my girlfriends. We went and had Christmas tea at the Inn at Irwin Gardens! We were not sure if we were going to go because the temperatures dropped so low. It was -2 that day and then we had tons of snow the night before. Also, the mansion is about an hour away from everyone, but we decided to go out, and we had a great time!

This was inside the mansion as we entered it. The ceiling had lots of details, and I loved all of the wood in the entryway. The original mansion was built in 1864 and was remodeled again in 1890.

These were some of the beautiful rooms that you could choose to have tea in. I actually loved the green room. It was so warm and inviting and the color in person was perfection. The other room was very grand and had a fireplace. I also loved the fabrics in that room.

Here is an up-close photo of one of the chairs. I LOVED the fabric so much. I believe these chairs were vintage as well. The room on the right is the room that me and my girlfriends had tea in.

We started off with a cup of roast pears and plums. It had a little bit of Greek yogurt and nuts. It was quite delicious. Of course, there were tea sandwiches, a hearty vegetable soup and dessert.

The dessert was the banana pudding with a ginger snap cookie. I enjoyed a cup of peppermint tea and a lovely conversation with the girls. They also gave us a tour of the bedrooms. This mansion was quite big for being 135 years old. I think it would be lovely to stay in a mansion like this. My husband hates bed and breakfasts so this would have to be enjoyed without him but that is okay.

Aren’t these Dress Christmas trees beautiful? A few on the rooms had them. I would love one for my office one day. I may have to search Amazon. It was a wonderful, lovely day with the girls and so needed before the holidays. I will be taking time off from the blog next week. Let me know in the comments below what you plan to do this holiday season! Merry Christmas!

The Parlor PS ~ New Restaurant Discovery

Hello Friends,

It’s still HOT! Now I don’t want to wish the summer away but I sure do want to wish the heat away. I really want to sit on my porch, read a book and maybe have a glass of wine. But it is still too hot! On Friday, Lauren and I went to see Freakier Friday with Jamie Lee Curtis and Lindsy Lohan. It was really cute and Lauren loved it. I also worked on my garden a bit. I have not been able to put anything in the greenhouse this summer it has been far too hot. We also visited a new restaurant about 40 minutes from where we live. It is called the Parlor PS.

A co-worker told me about this restaurant last week. She mentioned that she was going there to have tea and you all know that I love afternoon tea. But once she showed me the website, I knew that I had to visit myself! This restaurant just opened in March and is located in Mooresville, Indiana. As soon as I walked in I immediately loved the Victorian decor.

I am a chandelier girl and this had them everywhere. I also loved the deep blue paint color. It looked so beautiful with the matching chairs. It was a beautiful balance of old world charm and the Victorian era.

I loved the china and teacup sets. You can tell that the owners carefully curated their antiques for this space. The wallpaper blended seamless with the paint color.

Now the menu had lots of southern food and comfort food options. We ordered the southern biscuits to share. That whipped butter that they gave us…. OH MY GOODNESS! I could have licked it out of the bowl. It was so good. I also loved the homemade apple butter.

We all ordered the half fried chicken withe bacon jam. It was a tasty combination. The homemade garlic cream and mashes potatoes were perfect along with the green beans. Now their gravy had a hit of expresso to it. You may want to try that if you go.

They also had a great list of mocktails all alcohol free. I really want to go back for a tea time. I think that would be quite enjoyable.

I did journey upstairs to see their event space. It’s a great space for baby shower, bridal showers, and small events.

I did enjoy myself and hope to return soon with my girlfriends perhaps. If you live in the Indianapolis area and want to give them a try then you should. My co-worker also told me that they have an antique store next door! I completely missed that. If you decide to visit let me know. It’s a really cute space.

Antiquing in Florida

Hello Friends,

I am back from my work trip to South Carolina, and I really enjoyed myself. I went to a presentation skills class, and it was a great experience. I love being around people who are better than me. I find it to be so inspiring! There is so much that you can glean from someone who is better than you in something. You should not consider them to be an enemy but a teacher. Especially if that person is kind. If they are not, then that’s a different story. There were some great presenters as this training, and I am already looking forward to the next. This course helped us to focus on presenting in front of an audience, instruct classes, lead our teams, and put together PowerPoint presentations. I have already asked to be included as a facilitator in the next courses. I love being in this part of my life. I feel like I can finally participate in things and take risks.

Well let’s finish up my Florida adventures. I did find some boutiques to visit and antique stores. I have to have at least one antique store to visit while I am out of town. It is a must!

The first antique store that I visited was called the Antique Center on Alden Road. They don’t have a website so I could not link it, but it was the most beautifully curated store that I have ever seen in Florida!

I had to stop and look at every corner and every detail. It was lovely and the owner was so kind. I wanted everything in the store. It was so good, and the items were such good quality. The prices were a bit high, but you can tell that this store carried quality items.

I circled the store three times. I wanted to make sure that I did not miss anything. The owner did come from around the counter to talk with me. He took me to a space in the back where they had new inventory to price and place inside the store. He showed me this china set. I fell in LOVE with it! It was not priced yet and he had just purchased it from an estate sale from a widow who had recently passed way. Her home was worth $12 million dollars! This was one of her china teacup sets. It was from Tiffany & Company and was called the Audubon Limoges. I quickly looked it up and found this! So beautiful but so expensive!

I purchased a vintage brooch from this store. When I left noticed that this little area had a few shops around it to visit. The next store that I went to was called Bamboo & Foo. It was a really pretty store. Lots of color and beautiful antiques as well. There was a nice couple there assisting and helping out. I purchased some vintage tassels for my ginger jars in my room.

Once I left that area, I found a clothing boutique store called The Primrose. It was a cute little boutique that sold clothing, baby items and home decor. I purchased this blue and white clutch from there.

I had a nice “mom day” shopping around and looking at antiques. I needed a day away from the park. It was just too much for me. It’s amazing. We went to Florida in June, and it is August already. Goodness time is just flying by. Have a great week!

Visiting the Cake Bake Shop in Disney

Good Morning Friends,

We have had a busy weekend. I had to get a new nail tech. My nail tech quit about 2 weeks ago, so it has not been easy trying to find a new place. I am trying a new location so we will see how it goes. My husband had surgery on Monday! He had to have some bone spurs removed from both of his elbows and the surgery went well. We are in the healing process now and hope that the pain will began to subside soon.

I am trying to get caught up or work ahead on my blog posts. I have a work trip coming up here soon and will be gone for a week. I always like to make sure that I get my content ready to go. It helps me feel better. I started a new LinkedIn account for my business. It does not look like there is much going on, but I am getting a lot of views and impressions already! Yay! My friend and business mentor mentioned to me that I should start one so we will see how this goes.

I feel like I am behind on sharing things in my life but that is okay. I am learning to pace myself with all of the things that I have going on. I did film a video for YouTube and I hope to get that published soon. Now without further ado let’s see my visit to the Cake Bake Shop at the Disney Boardwalk

I honestly expected nothing but the best from Gwendolyn. This location was just as beautiful as the other two. It did feel a little grander, but the beautiful details were there. The location is on a lovely boardwalk right off of the water. I bet this is so beautiful at night. As soon as you walk in you immediately look everywhere including up. All of the crystal and florals are tucked into every little location.

We checked in the restaurant then we went to look around in the bakery. This is walking into the bakery. There is also a gift shop which is where I found the swan cup for my pens. There were so many items to look at.

Once we finished shopping at the bakery and the gift shop, they called our name, and we got to go into the restaurant. Walking in and seeing the gorgeous carousel table area was a real treat! I loved the design and all of the florals.

In the carousel was a table for about 8 people. Now wouldn’t this be a lovely place to celebrate a birthday with some friends? I just can’t get over her chandeliers. I believe she designed those too.

For lunch I got the chicken salad sandwich on a croissant with truffle fries. It was so good! My husband got truffle fries as well and a slider. For cake I got the red velvet cake. While eating I had to look around and noticed the ceiling. Looks like a work of art almost. STUNNING!

This location had so many different areas of where you can dine, have a drink or cup of tea. The place was so pretty, and I am still in love with this paint color.

I told my husband that I had to get a photo standing under the chandelier and florals.  It looks like a dream! I had a wonderful time at this location and was so happy that we got to make time to go. I was not sure if I was going to be able to come because it was about 20 minutes from Universal and I did not want to leave the girls at the park by themselves but then I realized they were doing their own thing and was not thinking about me!

We had a really great time, and it felt good to get away from Universal. It was so hot and being able to do something “elegant” helped me to dive back into the park once I had a day to take a break. I will be sharing my antique shopping while I was there and stores that I found. Above is my swan cup that I purchased while I was there. I got two. I needed one for both offices, right? They both look so charming in my offices. It a delight using them and seeing them in my spaces. Remember live with beautiful things.

I hope you all enjoyed this post and found the Cake Bake Shop to be as beautiful as usual. I had a wonderful time there and hope to visit it again sometime in the near future. The boutique still has some beautiful pieces left to purchase. The photo above is how I styled Patricia. She is wearing the Lux Cardigan Brooch, Pearls and Chinoiserie scarf. She looks like lovely. All of the pieces are on sale. Enjoy!

Our Trip to Universal ~ 2025

Hello Everyone!

I had a busy weekend, but it was great! I took the day off last Friday to go and pick up my newly reupholstered chair.  It is gorgeous! I will be sure to share some photos later. Once I returned home, I had a representative from California Closets come by and design a closet organization system for my walk -in closet. I am in love with it and hope to get it done soon! Then later on that afternoon one of our Guild members had a Chanel jewelry party at her home. I had a blast! She had great nibbles around to eat, and the jewelry was stunning. I purchased two pairs of earrings and a necklace. Of course I will share photos later. Lastly on Saturday, I attended a Garden Soiree! I was invited as influencer. It was a great time to network with other people in my city and see a beautiful property and garden.

Okay so I am finally getting around to sharing our trip to Universal Studios in Florida. We went in June. It has been almost 3 weeks since we have been back. I have been busy I tell you! Well I took some photos, not a lot. Again, my word of the year is “be present” so that is what I was trying to do while in Florida.

I will start off with the hotel. We stayed at the Hard Rock Resort which was a 10-minute walk to Universal. I will say it was a beautiful hotel, and the staff was incredibly nice!

The hotel was very clean and had lots of amenities. There were restaurants on site, rock music playing downstairs in the lobby with music videos, a Starbucks, and so much more!  As I mentioned the park was such a short walk from our hotel. We could also take a ferry. We passed this beautiful area of water every day. I actually loved looking at this on our way to the park.

It was so HOT! I mean hot. I actually got a terrible heat rash the first day and it lasted for more than 10 days. It hurt and itched at the same time, but I powered through it. Once we got to the park we split up from the girls and they headed to Harry Potter. Walking around was an experience. I was not getting on any rides but wanted to see Universal. My husband and I did get on the Bourne Stuntacular. If you are a Jason Bourne fan, then you will certainly enjoy this.

We did catch up with the girls in Diagon Alley. I will say this the Harry Potter World was put together quite nicely. There was a lot to see, and I think the Disney team did a great job creating their merchandise. All of it was very nice. We walked around, saw the dragon blow fire out of its mouth, and ate lunch at the Leaky Cauldron with the girls.

Another place that we dined at was the Hard Rock Restaurant. Lauren loved it! She loved the pink Cadillac spinning around in the middle of the restaurant. I loved the service, the space, and the food. This salad that I got was so satisfying! On a day where it is 100 degrees, having this salad was so refreshing and needed.

I did manage to get in a pool day. The pool area at the hotel was stunning. It was well kept and had a food and bar service. I ordered lots of things from Amazon to wear to the pool. This swimsuit cover up looked so chic along with this striped swimsuit. I also ordered this swimming cap to match as well as this beach tote

It was so nice just sitting by the pool and reading. I brought my Bunny Mellon book to catch up on. This is a really big book, and I need to finish it. It is really good! It is so fascinating to read about all of the connections and history that this family has. They started Listerine!

And the last place that I will mention is this restaurant which was so hard to get into! The Chocolate Emporium was a real treat. The food… all I can say is OMG! You really need to watch the video to get an idea about how much of an adventure it was. The staff was incredibly nice, and we got to meet the characters as well.

Overall, it was a really nice trip and was a dream for Lauren. Because we stayed at the Hard Rock hotel, she had early access to the park and Express passes! She hardly waited for any ride! She and her friend Ana were in Cloud 9! As parents it’s a great feeling to be able to do this for your kid. When I was growing up, we never traveled anywhere. So, I feel incredibly blessed to be able to do this for my kids.

Next week, I will be sharing my day at the Cake Bake Shop in Disney!!!

Scheduling Elegant Adventures

Well friends, how is everyone? Are we ready for spring? The trees in our neighborhood are starting to bloom and my peonies are perking up through the ground. We are waiting a few more weeks before we install my raised beds, and I am ready to have some warmer walking mornings.

Oh goodness… my title. I tell you I have been having some deep life thoughts lately. Especially around how I want to live. There are so many ugly things going on in this world. I try to limit my news watching and doom scrolling. I am also trying to monitor my stress at work. That has been really hard with all of the changes that we have been having.

I came up with this idea “scheduling elegant adventures” when I was meeting with my doctor and therapist. Yes, I have a therapist, and it has been the best thing ever! I have been going for almost a year, and I believe it was one of the best decisions that I have made so far. I was discussing with her my idea about elegant adventures, and she loved it!

I was also discussing it with my dietitian as we talked about my stress management and weight. I mentioned to some of the girls in my Pilates class and everyone took it in like “wait a minute maybe I should try this”. What I realized is that taking a vacation once a year for one week is not enough for me. Not anymore. I need more beauty, more time alone, and more adventures.

So on my elegant adventures list, at least once a month, I go to dinner with my “Guild Girls” and last month we went duckpin bowling.

We had the best time! I had a blast. I really did. It forced me to slow down, play a game, and enjoy the moment. We went to dinner right after that and it was a wonderful adventure!

I tried a non-alcoholic strawberry daiquiri. It was so good! We also walked around the Bottleworks hotel which was very beautiful. This past weekend I decided to have another elegant adventure.

I have been wanting to go and see Swan Lake at the ballet for years now and I got a ticket and went. It was a beautiful ballet, and I am so glad that I went. I sat in the balcony. I sat with two couples. I went alone and had no regrets. The couples were so nice and funny. We all had a great time! Honestly, I have never read the story about Swan Lake and read it in the program. It is VERY interesting. I thought the Indianapolis Ballet did a great job. They are the same production that puts on the Nutcracker each year and the Indianapolis Symphony orchestra played the entire time. Talk about “seeking the arts”.

For the month of April, I plan on going to Nordstrom Rack. I rarely get to go to that store. I also want to go to Consign by Design again, and this has just been added to my radar for this year. Isn’t this hotel GORGEOUS? This is about an hour and 45 minutes away from me and my supervisor told me all about it. I want to go and stay for a few days, tour the hotel, and have a spa day.  Now how wonderful would that be? My goal is to go and do something that I love each month and take that time to get away and just breathe. Stress and high cortisol levels are a real thing, and I just don’t want them to rule me anymore. Elegant adventures each month for me!

My Travel Luxuries ~ 2024

Hello Everyone,

Goodness what a weekend. I am trying to stay away from the news. There is too much going on right now. I did go antiquing on Saturday. One of the interior designers from the showhouse has a booth at Midland’s and I wanted to take a peek at it. While I was there, I found a gorgeous armchair that I will share in my July favorites. I placed it inside my greenhouse. It looks so stunning there.

I am gearing up for my trip next week. I will be flying to Virigina. In this blog post I wanted to share my current travel items. Honestly some of them are a luxury to me because I did not have really nice travel items until recently. There are a few influencers that I follow on Amazon, and they have shared some wonderful items on how to travel with affordable luxury.

I will start with this first. This is the cabinet in my closet. I have taken the first two shelves and created these “travel essentials” shelves. What I noticed (after traveling all these years) is that after we go on a trip, I usually leave my travel essentials and bags in my suitcases. What I noticed is that when my trips were approaching, and I was making a list I would NEVER know what I needed for my trip because everything would be in my suitcases tucked away in my closet. So dumb!

So when I reorganized my closet a few months ago I decided to go through everything and pull things out and make space for my travel essentials. It has made me so happy! I can know see what I need, and it has encouraged me to purchase more travel items and get more organized for my trips.

One of the new travel luxuries that I have purchased are these petite candles from Linnea. Now these are NOT petite. They are the size of your hand but so easy to pack away and take with you. I will be taking the Night Bloom with me to burn in my hotel room at night while I read a book. I also have a box of matches to take with me from Linnea. How elegant is that!

My second new travel luxury are these gold airless pump cream jars from Amazon. First off, these are stunning. I will be filling these with my facial cleaners and creams.

Okay I have succumbed to the clear case epidemic but only for the cleaning kits that I kept seeing on YouTube. I love the idea about having my very own cleaning kit. I cannot tell you how many times I have been in a hotel room wish I had some tools to clean items with.

But honestly, I am so happy to now have this as a part of my travel luxury items. A cleaning kit for the hotel room? Yes please! I ordered this bed bug spray and the rest was found at stores. If you can’t find any items, this travel cleaning kit is available on Amazon as well.

The last newest travel luxury are my new tea bag tins. So most of you know that I love tea and love having it with me when I travel as well but I will admit that I am TERRIFIED when I take tea bags with me through airport security. I do have TSA precheck but still these look suspect! So I wanted to come up with something to carry these in and a sandwich bag was NOT going to cut it. Really these in a sandwich bag? Think about it! So I thought about it and saw that my Harney’s tea is stored in tins, so I searched Amazon for these, and I love them now! I fill so much better having my bags with me and a secure elegant place.

Of course, I will still be using my packing cubes, vitamin pill holder, contact lenses container, cosmetic bag, and travel jewelry box. This is a work trip so my new mouse pad will be going with me as well as my new laptop screen extender. To see more of my travel favorites, you may read here, and here

Also this week I have two new bags that should be arriving. This one from Notiq! I can’t wait. It comes in a smaller version as well. And this bag that I have also been stalking for a while from MME.Mink. I will share an unboxing soon. Have a great week! There will be no blog post next week because I will be out of town, but July favorites will be posted the following week. Talk soon!
